ISO 9712

Metodo Visual Examination (VT), Penetrating Liquids (PT), Magnetoscopic (MT)

Visual Testing (VT) Course – Penetrant Testing (PT) Course – Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) Course in the industrial sector for direct access to Level 2 certification

Seven days of training dedicated to the three methodologies, with the option of attending only the classes of interest or following the entire course.

The course complies with the UNI EN ISO 9712 standard ‘Non-destructive testing – Qualification and certification of non-destructive testing personnel,’ which regulates certification in methods used in non-destructive testing in the industrial sector.

The certification of personnel involved in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is objective evidence of the correct management of human resources and the adequate implementation of production processes, contributing to the recognition of company quality standards.

Furthermore, the qualification of NDT personnel constitutes a legal safeguard for the protection of the liability of the manufacturer or the company responsible for the tests, acting as objective technical credentials for the skills of the personnel.

Course contents

The course programme will be structured according to modules covering the three methodologies, with an initial preparatory day common to all methods. The course will be structured in such a way as to allow candidates to sit the final Rina Level 2 certification exam.

VT Method – Main topics covered:

  • Principles and fields of application of the method: optics and photometry.
  • Defectology and metallography: discontinuities and defects in welded joints and other types of semi-finished products.
  • Instruments and equipment.
  • Control techniques and examination procedures.
  • Practical exercises and demonstrations.
  • Recording of results, interpretation and archiving of examination results.
  • Drafting of procedures and operating instructions.
  • Reference standards.

PT method – Main topics covered:

  • Principle and scope of application of the method: penetrating liquids, detectors, lighting lamps.
  • Defects in welded joints and other types of semi-finished products.
  • Equipment in use, calibration, verification and characterisation.
  • Examination practice: preliminary activities, operational phases of the inspection, main detectable discontinuities, leak tests and reliability tests.
  • Drafting of procedures and operating instructions.
  • Reference standards.

MT Method – Main topics covered:

  • Principle and field of application of the magnetometric control method.
  • Physical basis of the method: magnetic field, electricity and magnetism, magnetic properties of materials.
  • Testing equipment: detectors, characteristics of magnetic powders, lighting lamps, magnetisation equipment.
  • Examination procedure and evaluation of results: magnetisation rules, verification of the magnetisation field, operational phases, evaluation, types of discontinuities.
  • Practical exercises and demonstrations.
