The Monitoring of the Giuseppe Verdi Theatre in Terni Presented as a Case Study at SAIE Lab Perugia

Innovation in structural monitoring is built on real-world experience. This is the context in which the case study related to the functional and systems upgrading works at the Giuseppe Verdi Municipal Theatre in Terni was presented during SAIE Lab Perugia, an event promoted by SAIE and dedicated to technologies and best practices for the construction sector.

The presentation, delivered by Graziano Santilli, Key Account & Foreign Market Manager at Novatest, highlighted how wireless monitoring systems can play a key role in ensuring safety and control during construction activities.

For this project, 22 biaxial wall inclinometers and 8 crack meters were installed in collaboration with the construction company responsible for the works, with the objective of monitoring the structures surrounding the construction site during the most critical phases of the project.

All sensors, equipped with internal temperature probes, continuously transmitted data to the Novatest cloud platform through a dedicated gateway, enabling real-time remote monitoring of structural movements and deformations.

The monitoring campaign lasted 90 days, allowing the definition of specific alarm thresholds based on the maximum and minimum values recorded before the beginning of demolition, piling and excavation activities.

The system was calibrated not only to detect localized events, such as crane installation or temporary loads, but also to identify potential critical structural changes affecting the buildings surrounding the site throughout the various construction phases.

The experience shared in Perugia also anticipates Novatest’s participation in SAIE Bologna 2026, where the company will showcase its latest technologies for structural monitoring, diagnostics and surveying applications.
